Developable Surfaces in Marine Design
Sheet metal is used in marine industry to build ships. Specially the hull
must be faired smoothly to have good fluid dynamic properties. It's a
challenge to model with developable surfaces.
Superstructure
Besides the fluid dynamics bend sheet metal also has good properties in
regard of stability and vibration. Last not least one can do nice design
work with developable surfaces.
Filling
In yacht design the surfaces are filled to get the desired smooth look.
Clever designed developable sheet metal reduces the amount of filling
work tremendously.
